Guitar Hero Artification Project

This is a piece I made for the GuitART hero exhibition at Mana Bar  Brisbane.

Guitar HeroWii controller, not the actual one, forgot to photograph it, this image courtesy of Ebay

Wasn't sure what I was going to do, so I pulled it apart and gave it a primer coat.

After formulating a plan, I painted some bits irradescant green and the main parts back to black, which was a bit redundant because most of them were already black.

Sculpted a few little ghoul heads and tentacles to go onto the main part

Re-assembled the guitar, rubbed a dark purplish colour the black to add to the texture of the paintbrush strokes. See, there was a reason for painting the black parts white then black again.
Added purple spirals and  a bat and an eyeball to go in the remote hole.

painted up the sculptural elements.

Added green oozing out of the guitar, well it was white paint painted over with a green/ glow in the dark coat.
 Combined!
A few coats of glow on the dark paint on the green areas and some darker greens for edges and accents.
Jam in some glow stick tubes and you're good to go.

100 bullets stages/variations

After making the "Milo shooting at a doorway" image for the Ozcomics Draw-off #100 100 Bullets challenge I had a Photoshop file with lots of layers and in the process of creating the final image I went down a few blind alleys I either decided against or lacked the confidence to follow through.
Here are some of them:

Sixteen + figures

These are some figure studies I did referencing the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo.
Have a look around yourself.

There's lots of figures in all those frescoes, I'll probably do a few more, I found it very enlightening.

Book 3 contents page

Here's a look at the contents page for "Sounds Great! - The Despicable Man Collection Volume 3"
First, there's the latest batch of "Despicable Man" strips you know and love.

Then it's the Heroic Heroes/ DesPKeeble cartoon one-pager.

Next is the exclusive 6- page "Mr Piggles' Barnyard Farm Yarns" comic, in this episode Mr Piggles himself has fallen foul of the crime Queenpin Bossy the Sheep and needs to pay her his gambling debts.

Then there's two more installments of the "Lord Desmond- Up from London Town and two more "Swingin' Des - International Socialite."

Continuing the two-page motif is two pages of  "Smart Casual Racism" a feature that didn't really take off, probably because of the casual racism (which isn't smart or clever.)

Next is the 3 one-off portrait cartoons that qualify as special because they don't relate to a regularly occuring feature, "Des P Keeble's guide to Action Movies", "Signs you're watching too much Porn" and "Desmanco Fashions presents"

Lastly it's "Des' Cosplay Gallery" Desmond in the guise of various heroes and villains, such as "Dare Desmond" the sight impaired crimefighter/lawyer, "Leoni-Des and his Keeblan 300 warriors," "The Jo-Keeb" anarchaic villain with a wild look in his eyes and questionable face paint and some others that don't fit easily into the words Des, Keeble or Despicable.

Keep 'em peeled for "Sounds Great! - The Despicable Man Collection Volume 3!"

Sketchbook January - February 2013

I've been using brush pens with ink and ink washes, this means that I can only draw on one side of each page of my sketchbook. So I'm hammering through sketchbooks, this one had 5 sessions and a few doodles.

First a cartoon started at Drink 'n' Draw Brisbane

Bella De Jac plus assisting models Betty Lovecat, Viviane Mae and Jacqueline Furey at Dr Sketchy's
Brisbane at Bird studio/gallery.

Jacqueline Furey and two other performers whose names I didn't catch,
I mucked up the perspective to fit the figure in the back into frame ( she's not really that tiny)
The things that look like nipples are actually pasties, they just happen to be the same colour and size of the nipples they're covering.
